ACC Accredited to Offer Bachelor's Degrees

Alvin Community College鈥檚 accreditation was recently upgraded to allow the college to offer Bachelor鈥檚 Degrees.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on College changed ACC鈥檚 accreditation from Level 1 to Level 2. ACC鈥檚 first Bachelor鈥檚 Degree program in Business Administration and Management will begin in the Fall.

鈥淭he approval from the SACSCOC provides us with the opportunity to now offer its first-ever Bachelor鈥檚 Degree is a major accomplishment and empowers us to serve our local community with even more opportunity,鈥 ACC President Dr. Robert J. Exley said. 鈥淭he State of Texas has authorized our two-years colleges to offer up to a total of five different baccalaureate programs of study. With our inaugural program of being Business, we are off and running.鈥

The accreditation change took more than two years to develop and required curriculum development, approval by the regents, a review from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and SACSCOC.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great accomplishment because it took a lot of hard work from a lot of folks,鈥 said John Matula, ACC vice president of Student Services. 鈥淎ll areas of the college had to contribute in some form to help us achieve this status.鈥

SACSCOC is set to have a follow-up site review of the program 2025.

ACC is currently evaluating other programs for a Bachelor鈥檚 Degree. The recent accreditation will allow the college to offer up to five different degrees which will provide valuable options students seeking an education.

鈥淭he Bachelor鈥檚 Degree at ACC is an opportunity both in quality and affordability,鈥 Matula said.
