ACC Regents Approve Bachelor's of Nursing Program
Alvin Community College Board of Regents voted to pursue the creation of a Bachelor鈥檚 of Science Degree in Nursing during their meeting on April 24.
The proposed launch date for the new online degree will be Fall 2026.
鈥淚t will align with the strategic goals of the college and it will help satisfy the needs of local hospital facilities,鈥 said Elizabeth Saucedo, ACC Nursing director.
Regents decided to pursue the new online program after the increased demand for nurses with Bachelor鈥檚 Degrees from local healthcare providers. A survey of students in ACC鈥檚 Associate鈥檚 Degree in Nursing showed that 80 percent intend to enroll in a Bachelor鈥檚 program once they complete their Associate鈥檚.
The proposal will include the hiring of two new faculty members along with administrative support staff. Tuition cost for the Bachelor鈥檚 program at ACC would be far less than what is charged at universities.
The proposal will provide a cost-effective option for students that include part-time and full-time programs. Students in the Associate鈥檚 program will also be able to concurrently enroll in the Bachelor鈥檚 program.
鈥淢any students when they鈥檙e searching for a Nursing program, they鈥檙e seeking one with a Bachelor鈥檚 Degree,鈥 Saucedo said.
Once completed, this will be the second Bachelor鈥檚 Degree offered by ACC in addition to the Business Administration Degree.
Regents also:
-approved adjustments to some facility use and course fees
-approved $33,600 annual contract with Brainfuse for online tutoring services
-heard report on Strategic Goal 4
-approved monthly financial reports
-approved hiring of two campus police officers
The board will have its next meeting on May 22 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
