ACC Partners with CHN for COVID Testing
Alvin Community College has partnered with the Community Health Network to ensure Nursing students are cleared to participate in their clinical education.
The network provided COVID-19 testing on November 6 for more than 30 Nursing students so they can participate in clinical sites.
鈥淭he vocational nursing students are attending clinical at long-term care facilities and they are required to take weekly COVID screenings,鈥 said Dr. Debbi Fontenot, ACC Nursing director. 鈥淥ur partnership with CHN allows us to provide those screenings at no cost to our students.鈥
CHN is a network of healthcare providers in Brazoria County. The organization is a Federally Qualified Health Center.
Hands-on training at clinical sites is a requirement for Nursing and many other healthcare programs. Clinical education has become challenging during the pandemic.
鈥淐HN was incredibly efficient and registered all the students in less than two days,鈥 said Fontenot, who also serves on the CHN board of directors. 鈥淭he students are able to begin their clinicals as quickly as possible.鈥
CHN will continue to provide testing at no cost to the students.
鈥淐ommunity Health Network has long enjoyed our partnership with ACC,鈥 said Ezreal Garcia, CHN Business Development & Emergency Preparedness Manager. 鈥淐HN can provide ongoing testing to nursing students so that students can continue to complete their clinical hours.鈥
