The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) is a multidisciplinary medical association of more than 9000 physicians, sonographers, scientists, students, and other health care providers. Established in the early 1950鈥檚, the AIUM is dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of ultrasound in medicine through professional and public education, research, development of guidelines, and accreditation.
The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography庐 (ARDMS庐) administers examinations and awards credentials in areas of ultrasound. Through its mission, ARDMS empowers sonographers to provide exceptional patient care through rigorous assessments and continual learning.
The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) is a professional organization of physicians, cardiovascular sonographers, nurses and scientists involved in echocardiography, the use of ultrasound to image the heart and cardiovascular system. The organization was founded in 1975 and is the largest international organization for cardiac imaging.
CCI is an independent not-for-profit corporation established for the purpose of administering credentialing examinations as an independent credentialing agency. CCI began credentialing cardiovascular professionals in 1968.
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is a programmatic postsecondary accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and carries out its accrediting activities in cooperation with 25 review . CAAHEP currently accredits more than 2200 entry level education programs in 32 health science professions.
The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) was founded in 1970 to promote, advance, and educate its members and the medical community in the science of diagnostic medical sonography. The SDMS 鈥媔s a network of over 28,000 sonographers practicing in all specialty areas, sonography students, educators, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers who practice or have an interest in diagnostic medical sonography.
The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) is a membership society dedicated to the advancement of noninvasive technology used in the diagnosis of vascular disease. The Society has a diverse membership of over 5,700 vascular technologists, surgeons, cardiologists, lab directors, academics, students and other professionals involved in the practice of vascular ultrasound, approximately 20% of whom are physicians.
